The Bideford Amateur Athletic Club, known locally as "the Blues",
was formed in 1870, and has been one of the town's premier sporting establishments
ever since. The club has two main "sections", the rowing section
(one of the premier clubs in the West of England), and the harrier's section.

The B.A.R.C was founded in 1882 and has stood proudly on its present site, on the Quay, since 1939. The club, better known as "The Reds", has produced Rowing Championship crews second to none in the area and between them have amassed over 40 West of England A.R.A Championships and three South Coast Championship victories.
